MEET THE STAFF

Dr. Gail Hoff-Carmona, is the Owner and Director of Los Alamos Dressage Center

Dr. Gail Hoff-Carmona is a USEF Senior ("S") dressage judge, a Registered ("r") Dressage Sport Horse Breeding Judge, FEI Grand Prix level trainer and coach as well as a retired competitor.  She is also owner and director of the first school of dressage in the United States, Los Alamos Dressage Center, founded by her late husband, Major Hector Carmona, in N.J. and now relocated in Ojai, CA.

Outside of the horse world Gail is a Ph.D. immunologist who devoted much of her life to the research and development of several medical diagnostics such as the “Mono Test,” a quick diagnostic test for infectious mononucleosis, and immunologic pregnancy tests for people as well as horses. Gail, as owner and director of Los Alamos Dressage Center, received two Proclamation citations from the New Jersey State Assembly and Governor Whitman for civic work done to benefit both the community and equine research at the University of PA School of Veterinary Medicine.  She is recorded in Who’s Who,  Who's Who of American Women, American Men and Women of Science, Who's Who of Technology TodayAmerican Biographical Institute, International Biographical Center and the National Registry of Who's Who.

Gail earned her USDF Bronze, Silver and Gold Medals solely on self trained horses and has coached many students to earn equivalent USDF medals.  With her scientific mind, experienced eye as a judge and her success as a Grand Prix level trainer and competitor, Gail has an unusual ability to quickly detect and correct training/showing problems, thus making her a valued clinician, lecturer and teacher.  Helping other trainers, students and competitors to quickly move through their issues and gain better understanding of how to best work with the bio mechanics of the horse is a talent she developed through years of study and experience.

As a breeder of Swedish Warmblood (SWB) horses, Gail has bred 3 of the highest scoring licensed SWB stallions in North America, 2 diploma SWB mares and the highest scoring “double diploma” SWB mare (received diplomas for both dressage and jumping ability) in North America. Her horses have also won numerous championships both in hand and in dressage competition at the prestigious “Dressage At Devon” shows as well as winning numerous USDF Horse of the Year Awards at all levels.  Gail together with Bo Jenå, director of dressage at Flyinge, the National Stud of Sweden, produced a video for the Swedish Warmblood Association of North America.  That video/DVD,  How to Train and Present Horses In-Hand and Free Jumping, is available for purchase.

In 2006 she sold her farm in New Jersey and moved to Ojai, California where she continues to judge and do clinics both nationally and internationally as well as coach competing riders at all levels and train a few developing horses.  Gail also continues to stand her SWB stallion, L.A. Baltic Inspiration, (highest scoring SWB stallion in North America) at stud.  L.A. Baltic Inspiration is retired from the show ring but was both a Grand Prix jumper and Grand Prix Dressage horse.
