1999 DRESSAGE AT DEVON BREED SHOW RESULTS

The 1999 Dressage At Devon Breed Show was one of the biggest shows I have seen there, ever and it featured horses of truly outstanding quality. They came from as far as California and Canada to the show grounds in Pa. and the sign that hangs over the main arena, which says "Where Champions Meet" was certainly true this year.

The breed classes started at 7:00am and went without a break in 2 arenas all day long (several judges). Classes averaged between 30 to 40 horses per class.

So how did our SWB horses do? VERY WELL!

There were 20 SWB horses shown, representing 12 different sires as well as 2 SWB sires represented in the "Get of Sire" Class. Ribbons are awarded through 10 places and getting anywhere in the top 10 is a major achievement.

In the Yearling Colt/Gelding Class, Rameau by Idocus, a DUW colt, won and eventually was named Champion Young Horse. In this class of 30 outstanding colts, BALTIC VICTORY by L.A. Baltic Inspiration x Victory at Concord by Egmont (Trak.) placed 5th. BALTIC VICTORY is pretty grey gelding, bred and owned by Elizabeth Mask of PA.

The Yealing Filly Class was just as large as the colt/gelding class and L.A. BALTIC MEMORY by L.A. Baltic Sun x L.A. Utrilla by Utrillo placed 3rd between very close scores among the top 3. L.A. BALTIC MEMORY was bred and owned by Los Alamos Dressage Center of NJ.

The 2 Year Old Filly Class was even larger than the Yearling classes had been and 2 SWB's were in the Top 5! PETRA by Junior, owned and shown by DG Bar Ranch of Ca. won the class and eventually was named Grand Champion of the Show. The SWB filly, KALLISTRO by Bellini x Illusion by Ceylon, Owned by Thora Pollak of MD placed 4th and L.A. BALTIC KHARMA by L.A. Baltic Inspiration x L.A. Rose of Sweden by Burggraf placed 5th. She is bred and owned by Los Alamos Dressage Center of NJ.

The 2 Year Old Colt Class of 30 entrants was a very outstanding class and was won by Passeul, by Wanroij, a DUW gelding owned by DG Bar Breeders Ranch of CA. Passeul was eventually was named Reserve Champion Young Horse. The SWB colt, L.A. BALTIC ODYSSEY by Riverman X L.A. Utrilla by Utrilla was especially well received by the audience and placed 4th. L.A. BALTIC ODYSSEY was bred by Los Alamos Dressage Center and is owned by Tom Benson and Janet Bell of NJ.

HESTIA, the SWB mare that just received her Diploma at the 1999 SWB inspection and showed in the 4 year old and older Maiden and Yeld mare class placing 11th, just missing a Top 10 slot. HESTIA is by L.A. Baltic Sun x Athena by Ciceron, bred and owned by Dr. Oscar Baeza of NJ.

Under saddle, the SWB mare, L.A. BALTIC REFLEKTION by L.A. Baltic Sun x L.A. Utrilla, owned by Katarina Antens-Millerof NY and ridden by Gail Carmona, placed 4th in the 5 and 6 year old Suitable to Become a Dressage Horse class.

Two SWB sires were represented in the 1999 Get of Sire class, Dressage At Devon, and both placed in the Top 10. They were L.A. BALTIC SUN by Pontus x Nirana by Cyrano, bred by Per Paulsson, Sweden and owned by Los Alamos Dressage Center and L.A. BALTIC INSPIRATION by L.A. Baltic Sun x L.A. Utrilla by Utrillo, bred and owned by Los Alamos Dressage Center. In addition, L.A. BALTIC ODYSSEY joined forces with other representatives of RIVERMAN, to earn a 4th place spot for RIVERMAN (Hol.).

An interesting aside is that offspring of L.A. Baltic Sun have placed him in the Top 10 "Get of Sire" Class EVERY year since his offspring started to show as yearlings!

The SWB's, L.A. BALTIC MEMORY and L.A. BALTIC ODYSSEY captured a 3rd place in the Breeder's Group Class (Best group of 2 or 3 horses bred by any one breeder) for Los Alamos Dressage Center.

Last, but certainly not least, Alyssa Metcalfe and her SWB mare, KISMET by L.A. Baltic Sun x Night Moves xx, placed 6th in another huge class of Amateur/ Junior/ Young Rider Handlers.

CONGRATUALTIONS to Kate Fleming and L.A. Baltic Mariner who won the FEI Junior Preliminary Test, Dressage At Devon, Friday, Oct. 2 with a 68.49% and were a member of the Gold Medal Junior/Yr Team.

L.A. Baltic Mariner is by the now deceased Grand Prix Arabian stallion, Serr Maariner and out of the Premium A SWB mare, L.A. Rose of Sweden. Bred at Los Alamos Dressage Center, see the story of L.A. Baltic Mariner on this web site. (Just click here).
