Dressage at Devon, 1998
Champion Stallion:
L.A. Baltic Inspiration Champion Mature
Horse: L.A. Baltic Inspiration Reserve Grand Champion:
L.A. Baltic Inspiration Highest Placing
SWB: L.A. Baltic Inspiration I finally recovered
enough to sit at the computer with slightly open eyes for a little while
and fill you in on some of the results from the Breeding Division of Dressage
At Devon (DAD), which is the largest Sport Horse Breed Show in North America. I am overwhelmed,
but happy to say that my own stallion, L.A.
Baltic Inspiration was named Champion Stallion,
Champion Mature horse and Reserve Grand Champion of the show. He also
once again captured the Swedish Warmblood Association Trophy for the highest
Placing/Scoring SWB or Appendix SWB of the Breeding Division. He is a
SWB by L.A. Baltic Sun x L.A. Utrilla by Utrillo and bred at Los Alamos
Dressage Center. This was a truly outstanding way to end the summer of
1998 since "Inspiration" started in Grand Prix jumpers this
year with Laura Chapot in the irons, placing 2nd and 3rd in his first
2 G.P. competitions. He also qualified for the ABIG/USDF Regional Finals
at 4th Level dressage but will be going to Harrisburg to jump instead. The Champion Mare
of DAD was the Hanoverian, Berlina by Brentano II x Hill Hawk xx.
She is owned by Suzanne Quarles. Berlina was also the Reserve Champion
Mature Horse but swapped spots with L.A. Baltic Inspiration to
take the Grand Championship at the end of a very long day. - Congratulations
Suzanne! The Champion filly
and Champion Young Horse was Pearl, a 3 Yr old Hanoverian by Prince
Thatch x World Cup II owned by Sharon Garner. The Champion colt
and Reserve Champion Young Horse was - I hate to tell you this, but I
did not write it down and I do not want to make a mistake and tell you
the wrong name. The Breeder's Group
Trophy was won by Iron Spring Farm, but Los Alamos Dressage
Center was the only farm to have 2 groups placed in the top 10. L.A. Baltic Independence
(L.A. Baltic Sun x Steel Rail xx), a bay gelding - 8th in 2 yr old colts
and geldings. Owned by Carol Covington. L.A. Baltic Odyssey
(Riverman x L.A. Utrilla by Utrillo), a grey colt - 10th in yearling colts
and geldings. Owned by Los Alamos Dressage Center. L.A. Baltic Kharma
(L.A. Baltic Inspiration x L.A. Rose of Sweden), a chestnut filly, - 9th
in yearling fillies. Owned by Los Alamos Dressage Center. Paseana (L.A.
Baltic Inspiration x Pomerans), a bay yearling filly bred by Don Cammiso,
and her owner, Amy Kudelka, won the Amateur Handler Class. In the Group Classes
Los Alamos Dressage Center had 2 winning groups L.A. Baltic Odyssey
(above) and L.A. Baltic Phantom by L.A. Baltic Sun - 4th L.A. Baltic Inspiration
(above) and L.A. Baltic Indepedence (above ) - 6th L.A. Baltic Sun and
L.A. Baltic Inspiration were the only 2 SWB's represented in a huge Get
of Sire class (over 20 sires represented with Iron Spring Farm showing
the get of 4 of their stallions, Hilltop showing the get of 3 of their
stallions and Norsire showing the get of 2 stallions.) The get of Riverman
(owned by Hilltop Farm) placed 1st and 4th. One of the groups also included
the SWB colt, L.A. Baltic Odyssey (above). L.A. Baltic Sun's
offspring placed 6th and included L.A. Baltic Inspiration and L.A. Baltic
Phantom L.A. Baltic Inspiration's
offspring placed 8th and included Paseana (above) and L.A. Baltic Kharma Between Hilltop and
Los Alamos in a co-operative effort, half of the Top 10 placings went
to these two farms. As Hilltop's enthusiasm for L.A. Baltic Inspiration
and his offspring peaked, and since Los Alamos has been a supporter of
their stallions, too, these two farms may co-operate even more in the
future, making the services of their stallions more available to each
other. Gail Carmona, balticsun@aol.com
